Day 1: Arrival in Errachidia and Journey to Merzouga

Pick-up and Departure from Errachidia

We will meet you at the Errachidia Airport or your chosen accommodation in the city. After a warm welcome, you’ll be whisked away in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4×4 or minibus, depending on the size of your group. The first leg of the journey takes you through Ziz Valley, known for its vast palm groves and lush green scenery amidst the arid desert terrain.

As you drive along the winding roads, you’ll catch your first glimpses of traditional kasbahs and Berber villages that dot the landscape. The contrast between the green oases and the red, barren hills is truly breathtaking.

Ziz Valley and Rissani

As we continue the drive, we make a stop in Rissani, a small town known for its bustling markets and ancient history. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore the Moulay Ali Cherif Mausoleum, the resting place of the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty, which still rules Morocco today. Rissani is also known for its delicious Berber pizza, a must-try local delicacy.

Arrival in Merzouga

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, a small village at the edge of the Erg Chebbi Dunes, some of the highest sand dunes in Morocco. The highlight of the day is the camel trek into the heart of the Sahara. As the sun begins to set, you’ll ride through the golden dunes on the back of a camel, experiencing the silence and majesty of the desert.

You’ll arrive at a luxurious desert camp where you’ll spend the night in a traditional Berber tent, complete with all modern amenities. Enjoy a delicious dinner under the stars and experience traditional Berber music around a campfire before retiring for the night.

Day 2: Exploring the Merzouga Desert

The second day of your tour is dedicated to exploring the vast Merzouga Desert and experiencing the unique culture and lifestyle of the nomadic people who call this area home.

Sunrise Over the Dunes

Start your day early with a short hike to the top of the dunes to witness the sunrise over Erg Chebbi. The sight of the sun rising over the golden sands is a moment you’ll never forget. Afterward, return to the camp for a hearty breakfast.

4×4 Adventure and Visit to Nomad Families

After breakfast, we set off on a thrilling 4×4 adventure through the desert, visiting some of the most remote and fascinating spots in the region. You’ll have the chance to visit Khamlia Village, known for its Gnawa music. Here, you’ll enjoy a live performance of this spiritual music, brought to Morocco by former sub-Saharan slaves.

Next, we visit a nomad family living in traditional tents in the desert. You’ll get a unique insight into the nomadic lifestyle, learning about their daily routines and the challenges of living in such a harsh environment. It’s an eye-opening experience that allows you to appreciate the resilience and hospitality of these people.

Evening: Free Time and Sandboarding

In the afternoon, you’ll return to the camp for some leisure time. Take a stroll through the dunes, try your hand at sandboarding, or simply relax and take in the peaceful desert surroundings. As the sun sets once again, enjoy another traditional Moroccan dinner at the camp, followed by more music and storytelling under the stars.

Day 3: Return to Errachidia

On the final day of your tour, we begin the journey back to Errachidia, but not before one last opportunity to soak in the beauty of the Sahara.

Sunrise Camel Trek

Wake up early for a sunrise camel trek back to Merzouga village. The cool morning air and soft light of the rising sun make for a serene and magical experience as you ride through the dunes.

Return Drive Through the Ziz Valley

After a relaxing breakfast at your accommodation, we start the drive back to Errachidia. Along the way, you’ll have time to stop for photos and soak in the last views of the stunning Ziz Valley. If time permits, we’ll also visit the Ziz Gorges, a dramatic and picturesque canyon carved by the Ziz River.

Departure from Errachidia

Upon arrival in Errachidia, we will drop you off at the airport or your accommodation, marking the end of an unforgettable 3-day adventure through the Merzouga Desert.
